Hostel Hopping: Make "Ljmonade"

We’re always on the hunt for cool hostels around the world, ones that provide an entire experience that illuminate backpackers' memories. We recently became acquainted with the jolly, carefree crew at Hostel Ljmonade, so for today’s installment of Hostel Hopping we will jaunt to Cascais, a coastal beach town in Portugal.
Unique elements: The theme of Ljmonade Hostel is the lemon. And "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!" Ljmonade is always striving for guests to feel relaxed, happy and healthy and that's why their hostel is not just a place to sleep. True to the name, they offer fresh lemonade at the check-in during the summer and debrief new visitors on the fun of Cascais: the beautiful beaches, the sightseeing, free bike rentals, and everything they need to enjoy the village vibe.
Ljmonade is more than an accommodation, they also promote active holidays and a healthy lifestyle. It is like their mantra. They go hiking and cycling with our guests, push them (not literally) into water sports like surf and paddling, and have devised partnerships with yoga studios, horseback riding facilities, and even paintball parks! And they try their best to make the guests laugh while teaching some Portuguese words.
Cool factor: The hostel has a home feel to it. Often a guest will come for three or four nights and end up staying for weeks. They don't want to leave because they fall in love with the village, the hospitality of Portuguese people, the sun (they have over 260 days of sun per year), the ocean, and all the leisure activities at their disposal.
The hostel makes it easy to feel at home with comfortable hand-painted beds, fireplace, terrace for those summer nights where you can just pick the guitar and play some songs. Guests and staff get together and have fun conversations about life, traveling, food and experiences. Then the next morning, homemade waffles for breakfast is a plus that guests love.
Ljmonade has a volunteer program, where people from all over the world can visit the hostel and they can arrange for them to stay at the hostel in exchange for shifts at the reception. They have volunteers helping us from UK, Russia, Lithuania, Spain, etc. The most remarkable aspect of the hostel is the healthy and carefree attitude they promote. Cheers Ljmonade!
